Jaime San Martín

 (University of Chile, Chile): He holds a Ph.D. in Statistics from Purdue University, United States (1990), and a degree in Mathematical Civil Engineering from the University of Chile (1985), where he currently serves as a full professor in the Department of Mathematical Engineering. He is also an associate researcher at the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) and scientific director of the National Laboratory for High Performance Computing (NLHPC).

His main area of research is probability theory, particularly stochastic calculus, Brownian motion, potential theory, and quasi-stationary distributions. He also works on matrix analysis and its connections to probability. In terms of applications, his interests are primarily focused on mathematical models in astronomy.
